Alicia Guinn | dancer & teacher

Alicia Guinn is a leading teacher of sean-nós dance in the United States. She also teaches many other forms of Irish traditional dance, including set dancing, old-style step dancing, céilí dancing, and two-hand dances.

Alicia’s teaching style reaches beyond dance steps to the culture and history of Irish dance. With expertise rooted in the dance traditions of Galway and Clare, Alicia helps students develop joy, fluency, flow, musicality, and personal style in their dancing.

For 20 years, Alicia has worked for festivals throughout the U.S. and Canada, performing, teaching, consulting, and adjudicating dance competitions. She also taught weekly sean-nós dance classes in Seattle for ten years.

Alicia was a founding board member of Sean-nós Northwest in 2009. She served as the festival’s Dance Director for a decade, working with world-class dancers and musicians to shape Sean-nós Northwest’s dance program, curriculum, and teaching approach.

Alicia’s professional experience in play-based and experiential learning for children inspires her to create new, innovative approaches for teaching sean-nós dance. She guides students in exploring traditional dance to expand personal growth. Alicia creates welcoming, inclusive learning communities that empower students to develop courage and creativity.
