Milwaukee: Art as Learning

At the end of my dance class for children at Milwaukee Irish Fest Summer School 2023, I asked my students to express their ideas about dance through writing or drawing. During the week, they learned some two hand dances and tried sean-nós dancing.

Art is a powerful tool for children to express what they learned in dance class. It’s also a great way for children to pause, think, and communicate their ideas about dancing to their families, teachers, and classmates.

As a teacher, this kind of feedback about my teaching is invaluable. As a dancer, I feel moved to see children’s thoughts, ideas, and opinions about dancing captured on paper.
